Vascular Quality Based Procedures (QBPs) Update

To ensure a consistent and comprehensive management and funding of all AA and LEOD repair procedures, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has asked CorHealth to investigate the potential inclusion of activity beyond inpatient procedures within the vascular QBP funding envelope.

Over the summer and fall of 2020, CorHealth worked with vascular stakeholders and the MOH to design and plan for a phased approach to potentially include activity beyond inpatient procedures within vascular QBPs. Phase 1 starts in this current fiscal year and aims to update current QBPs to include same day (outpatient) cases. Phase 2 starts in fiscal year 2021/22 and aims to further update the vascular QBPs to include urgent/emergent AA and LEOD repair procedures, and Advanced Aortic Aneurysm cases.

Achievements to date include stakeholder consultations, drafting revisions to the current vascular QBP handbooks, and completion of a one-time current state survey of outpatient Interventional Radiology activity that is not currently captured in the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) database.

CorHealth will continue ongoing dialogue with vascular stakeholders and the MOH to support rollout of Phase 1 of the Vascular QBP work.
