FY 2018/19 Q1/Q2 Endovascular Therapy Results

On October 24, 2018, CorHealth Ontario produced the first-ever 2017-18 baseline performance results in Canada, illustrating the quality of Endovascular Thrombectomy (EVT) with respect to timeliness, access and outcomes for patients receiving endovascular therapy.

The nine reporting endovascular therapy performance indicators were successfully launched on IDS (Integrated Decision Support Business Intelligence Solution), which will enable the ten EVT hospitals in Ontario to compare and trend their performance over time.

On March 28, 2019, the Q1/Q2 biannual report for FY 2018/19 will be released, followed by an anticipated release of the annual report in September 2019.

Preliminary results from FY 18/19 Q1/Q2 reveal several areas of improvement:

  • 3% increase in the rate of successful reperfusion
  • 3% decrease in the overall mortality rate.

Timeliness of clinical care processes was identified as a potential area for improvement. Specifically, improvements should target emergency department (ED) arrival to puncture time.

CorHealth is committed to continuing our work with the ten EVT sites across the province to improve the overall quality of their care for all Ontarians.
