This resource supports the Canadian Best Practice Recommendations for Stroke Care in the acute care setting (Rec. #4.1) and inpatient rehabilitation (Rec. #5.2). It provides guidance for the establishment of new stroke units and the enhancement of existing stroke units to provide optimal services and processes of care for stroke patients.
This two-page document provides an overview of the rationale, challenges and opportunities for change that support the best practice recommendation that all patients admitted to hospital with stroke or TIA should be cared for on a stroke unit. It is geared to health care professionals and administrators.
This final report builds a case for promoting rehabilitation best practices broadly and outlines the potential positive economic impacts for the health care system.
